DALLAS CANCER SURVIVOR TO
RELEASE BOOK ABOUT
20,000 MILE RIDE TO PROMOTE
CANCER SURVIVAL

Dallas:  When doctors told Buddy Boren in 1994 that he had cancer, he never imagined that one day he would be riding a bicycle on six different rides for a total of 20,000 miles. But then again he wasn't sure if he would even be around to ride a bike at all. But Buddy survived, and in 2000 his mission became to get a message out to people with cancer not to give up, survival was possible. In his new book, "Reason To Ride", Boren recounts his battle with cancer and how he fought back to lick the dreaded disease. His encouraging story tells of his six major rides that he made solo to get his message out and to raise money for various cancer charities.  Ride one was around the border of Texas.  That ride took 57 days and covered 3100 miles.  Ride two was Dallas to New York City which was 2,000 miles and was covered in 37 days.  Ride three was Savannah, GA. to Los Angeles which took 40 days and covered 2553 miles.  In 2005 Boren redid his ride around Texas, this time completing the 3100 miles in 55 days.  In 2006, Boren took on the popular Route 66  from Chicago to Los Angeles.  His Route 66 ride covered 2,500 miles and took 39 days.  For Boren's final ride, called Texas Tip to Top, Boren rode from Brownsville, Texas to the top of the Texas Panhandle, a distance of 1,000 miles which took 15 days.

"Reason To Ride" is filled with stories about events that took place during his six rides.  Like the time he rode over a 5 foot snake in Mississippi, and how outside of Phoenix he accidentally almost checked in to a nudist colony motel.  But mainly it is about not giving up if you have cancer.  Charities Boren rode for included KOA Care Camps and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.  "Reason To Ride" is being published by Half Court Press from Dallas and was co- written by Kirk Dooley.

Boren has several book signings lined up as follows:
